I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. We arrived quite late to Florianska Street which is very touristy and always seems to be packed. I was a little anxious but then we stepped into the beautiful calm oasis of the Hotel Pod Różą. The welcome we were given was so charming that it set the tone for our whole trip. The rooms are lovely. There is everything you need and they are full of things you didn’t even know you needed! They are quite austerely furnished in dark woods in a rather masculine style. No fancy frilly cushions you don’t know what to do with but clean lines, very functional and rather beautiful as well. We were staying in single rooms on the 3rd floor and the beds and furniture are Biedermeier style and very comfortable. The beds seemed a lot bigger than regular single beds. We all remarked on it. The air-conditioning works perfectly which was a boon in 31° heat. The rooms have parquet flooring, high ceilings and are really well lit. I have a sight problem and I dread staying in hotels because they usually have ‘atmospheric’ lighting and are so dimly lit that I find it hard. I usually take extra lighting with me but no need this time because the lighting is perfect. You can have it as dim or as bright as you want. I did not use the spa because the lighting is so low and it makes it a hazard for me but my companions did and liked it, saying it was small but very nice. The breakfast is really good. Simply don’t recognise the few negative comments I read in other reviews which had worried me a bit. First you get a tray of ‘appetisers’ and home baked bread. There are things like tapenade, mortadella ham and cheese, yoghurt with granola, houmos, tomatoes sprinkled with chives, herring with onions, tartare of salmon and then you can choose one hot item from the menu: everything from Polish sausage, Eggs Benedict to a delicious mushroom & Gruyère omelette or bacon and eggs with caramelised onions.

Perfect location, just a few steps away from the main square, with many restaurants and cafes nearby. In a walking distance to the railway station and all key Krakow attractions. The room was fantastic - clean, spacious and elegant, perfect for a romantic stay. There was a delicate smell of old wood furniture and floors that reminded me of a castle. From our window, above the rooftops of other buildings, we could see the Mariacki Church towers and we could hear Hymnal very well through open windows. An extraordinary experience. The bed was big and comfy, although better pillows wouldn't hurt! The SPA was very nice, we had it all to ourselves in early afternoon for over an hour which was an additional bonus. The only additional thing it could have is a swimming pool or at least a jacuzzi but I appreciate the space is limited. The SPA looks magical, with the stone walls and the high ceiling and the dimmed lights. The herbal scent from the SPA spread across the hotel - in a good way :) The staff was super polite, we felt properly pampered.

The bed was very comfortable, plenty of space and a fantastic bathroom. The staff were all very helpful, courteous and resolved any questions very quickly. The breakfast was amazing! We were not expecting so much food, all of which tasted great. There were a set of appetisers which were filling enough but then you had a hot course and a dessert! Breakfast staff were very polite and efficient too. We used the spa facilities also which were fantastic. We had a hammam treatment with massage and it was exceptional. We are already looking to stay again as it was one of the best hotels we have both stayed in.
